For decades, Anand Patwardhan has been a singular figure of independent documentary in India, giving inspiration to a flourishing of new directors today. He returns to TIFF for the World Premiere of The World is Family, a portrait of his parents that’s simultaneously a love story, a history of India’s independence movement, and a reaffirmation of seeing people from different religions and backgrounds as equal. Patwardhan discusses his perseverance over lack of funding and censorship to create his body of award-winning films.
